Eden Gardens (Bengali: ইডেন গার্ডেন্স) is a cricket ground in Kolkata (previously called Calcutta), India. It is the home of the Bengal cricket team and the Indian Premier League's Kolkata Knight Riders, as well as being a Test and One Day International ground.[2] It is the largest cricket stadium in India by seating capacity. It is widely acknowledged to be the most iconic cricket stadium in the country.

History of Cricket :




 Cricket is a sport played between a bat and bowl in a team consists of 11 players. The first game registered was in southern England in the 16th century. By the end of the 18th century, cricket became the national sport of England. The popularity and expansion of the England team led to cricket being played overseas and by the mid-19th century the first international matches were being held. Today, the cricket governing body, the International cricket council (ICC), has now over 100 member countries. With its greatest popularity in the Test playing countries, cricket is now the world's second most popular sport after FIFA Association.

Cricket First Official Game:


The first cricket match on earth was played between America and Canada.This match took place between 25th and 27th September 1844 at the St George's Cricket Club, Bloomingdale Park in New York. Canada won by 22 runs. The game was watched by between 10,000 and 20,000 spectators and around $120,000 worth of bets were placed.

ICC cricket world cup winners:

1.West indies (1975 world cup winners):

West indies was the winner of first ever 50-overs international world cup in the captaincy of Clive Lloyd.The runner up of this world cup was Australia.The host nation was England.The final match was played at Lords England.



2.West indies(Winners of world cup 1979):

West indies was the winner of  second 50-overs international world cup again in the captaincy of Clive Lloyd.The final match was played at Lords England.




3.India(Winner of 1983 world cup):

This cup is also known as also known as Prudential Cup.India won their first world cup in the captaincy of Kapil Dev.The host nation was again England.The runner up was Westindies and they were playing their continously third world cup final.India then became the first asian country to win the world cup.The final match was played at Lords London(Known as home of cricket).


4. Australia(Winner of 1987 world cup):

This fourth edition of the world cup was won first time by Australia in the captaincy of Allan Border.The runner up was England  and they were playing their continuously second final of the world cup and total third final of this event. This world cup was first time joint hosted by two Asian countries Pakistan and India.The final match was played at Eden Gardens (Kolkata) India.


5.Pakistan(Winner of world cup 1992):

The fifth edition of the world cup was won by Pakistan in the captaincy of Imran Khan.The runner up was England and they were playing their fifth final of the world cup.Pakistan then became the first country to win the world cup in color clothing.Pakistan then became the second Asian country to win this biggest cricket event.It was the first world cup played under flood lights.The special thing was that the white ball was introduced in the world cup.It was the first cup which was hosted by these two countries Australia and Newzealand.The final match was played at Melbourne cricket ground Australia.


6.Srilanka(Winners of 1996 world cup):

The sixth edition of this world cup was won by Srilanka in the captaincy of Arjuna Ranatunga.The runner up was Australia and they were playing the third final of the world cup.Pakistan and India hosted this world cup second time in the history of this biggest cricket event.However the Srilankan team was not considered to be as favorites but because of the blast opening of Sanath Jaysuriya,extraordinary batting of De Silva,and good captaincy of Arjuna Ranatunga lead Srilanka to win the world cup for their country.The final match was played at Qaddafi Stadium Lahore Pakistan.



7.Australia(Winner of 1999 world cup):

The seventh edition of this world cup was won by Australia in the captaincy of Steve Waugh and he was playing his fourth world cup and second world cup final but the first world cup as a captain.The runner up was Pakistan and they were playing the second world cup final.However Wasim Akram was considered to be a good and fighting leader and he came up with a strong team but they were all out by just scoring 132 runs.It was one sided match and Australia won it easily by chasing it with a lost of two wickets.It was hosted primarily by England, but Ireland, Wales, Scotland and the Netherlands.The final match was played at Lords London,England.


8.Australia(Winner of 2003 world cup):

The eighth edition of the world cup was again won by Australia in the captaincy of Ricky Pointing.The runner up of this world cup was India.After winning this cup Australia became the first team to win three world cups in the history of International cricket world and they were playing their fifth world cup final.South Africa first time hosted the world cup.The final match was played at Johannesburg South Africa.


9.Australia(Winner of 2007 world cup): 

The ninth edition of the world cup was again won by Australia in the captaincy of Ricky Pointing and then he became the second captain after Clive Lloyd to bring the word cup twice for his nation.Australia were playing their sixth world cup final and and they won four out of it after winning this cup.The runner up was Srilanka.Westindies first time hosted the world cup.The final match was played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown West indies.

10. India(Winner of 2011 world cup)

 The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup was the tenth Cricket World Cup. It was played in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. It was Bangladesh's first time co-hosting a World Cup. The World Cup was also due to be co-hosted by Pakistan, but in the wake of the 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka national cricket team in Lahore, the International Cricket Council (ICC) decided to remove Pakistan from the hosting countries. The headquarters of the organising committee were originally situated in Lahore, but have now been shifted to Mumbai. Pakistan was supposed to hold 14 matches, including one semi-final. Eight of Pakistan's matches (including the semi-final) were awarded to India, four to Sri Lanka and two to Bangladesh.

1.Asim Kamal:

Mohammad Asim Kamal (born May 31, 1976 in Karachi) is a test cricketer for the national team of Pakistan who scored 99 against South Africa on his Test debut at Qaddafi stadium Lahore.
The special thing about him is that:
"He is also one of the batsman to score a boundary on the first ball of his debut ODI (one day International) vs Zimbabwe at Sheikh Zayed cricket stadium Abu Dhabi".







2.Lance Klusener:

Lance Klusener (born 4 September 1971 in Durban, South Africa) is a cricketer, more specifically an all-rounder. He is known for his aggressive batting and his fast-medium swing bowling. He is nicknamed "Zulu" because of his fluency in that language. Following his exploits at the 1999 World Cup, he topped the ICC ODI Batting rankings.He was awarded as man of the world cup 1999 for his blast batting.The special thing about is that "He belongs to South African army."

Ajantha Mendis:

Balapuwaduge Ajantha Winslo Mendis (born March 11, 1985 in Moratorium) is a cricketer who plays for the Sri Lankan national cricket team.
Mendis, although classified as slow-medium, bowls a mixture of deliveries, including googlies, off-breaks, top-spinners, flippers and leg-breaks, as well as the Carrom Ball, released with a flick of his middle finger. For Sri Lanka Army in 2007-08 he averaged a mere 10.56 and took 46 wickets in six games, his strike rate a startling 31. This gained him a call-up to the full Sri Lanka squad for the Caribbean tour in April 2008.
The special thing about him is that "Following basic training he played for the army team and saw active military service as a Gunner in the Sri Lanka Artillery,a regiment of the Sri Lanka Army. Following the Asia Cup final, he has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant on 7 July 2008 and the next day commissioned as a Second Lieutenant".









4.Andrew Symonds:


Andrew Symonds (born 9 June 1975, Birmingham, England) is a former Australian cricket team all-rounder. A two-time World Cup winner, Symonds is a right-handed middle order batsman and alternates between medium pace and off-spin bowling.He was the member of Australian word cup winner teams of 2003 and 2007.
The special thing about him is that "Symonds has been a keen supporter of the Brisbane Broncos since childhood and was considering a switch to rugby league in 2002 when his cricket career was faltering, but ultimately decided to stay in cricket. On 21 June 2009 he played a game for the Wynnum Manly Seagulls against an all star team featuring some noted players including Marcus Bai and Steve Renouf. He has also trained with the Brisbane Broncos in the past. In 2011 he played in the inaugural 'Legend of Origin' match to support victims of the Queensland floods. He played for Queensland alongside such league legends as Gorden Tallis, Wendell Sailor, Mat Rogers and Mal Meninga"
